Wendy Howerton Announces Candidacy for Circuit Judge, Division 2
Local attorney Wendy Howerton recently announced her candidacy for Circuit Judge, Division 2, serving Washington and Madison Counties. Her platform emphasizes an efficient court where everyone has a voice, with a steadfast commitment to applying the law fairly.
“Taking your case to court is a daunting, expensive, and time-consuming endeavor,” Howerton said. “When citizens enter the judicial system, every day matters. I’m running to ensure cases are resolved fairly and promptly because citizens’ lives, families, and peace of mind hang in the balance.”
In her 20 years of practice, Howerton has represented citizens of Washington and Madison Counties, as well as Arkansans from across the state in nearly every type of legal matter from speeding tickets to complex commercial cases. She started as a public defender, founded Howerton Law Firm and recently has focused on appellate work.
Currently, she is fighting a $20 million illegal tax on behalf of over 60,000 North Arkansas property owners throughout six circuit courts and the Arkansas Supreme Court.
Howerton stated, “Representing so many Arkansas citizens on matters impacting their everyday lives has taught me that people need their judge to be fair and their voice to be heard.”
Wendy is a native of Jessieville, Arkansas. She graduated from Arkansas State University where she ran track on a full scholarship and the University of Arkansas School of Law. She is actively involved in the community, coaching cross-country and track at St. Joseph School in Fayetteville, as well as a member of the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct.
She resides in Fayetteville with her husband, Matt Bishop, and their children. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, floating Arkansas rivers, attending her children’s sporting events, and attending Fellowship Church in Fayetteville.
