Years ago, homeowners and businesses in 6 counties found an $18 charge on their property tax bills to pay off the debt of a failed solid waste district. The government called it a fee. Wendy called it what it was: an illegal tax.
So she took it to court, county by county, and kept at it for nearly eight years, all the way through the appeals courts. The taxpayers won, and now they're getting their money back.
